The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akwa Ibom and Delta States have elected a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the party.
Uwemedimo Essien emerged as State Chairman in Akwa Ibom and George Timinimi came top as Delta State Chairman of the party.
The elections conducted after direct primaries were held across ward and chapter centres in both States.
After a successful election, party officials and delegates described the process as orderly, peaceful and transparent.
The exercise was overseen by an electoral committee chaired by Bassey Ewa, a former Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, alongside Secretary Tunde Lakoju, a former member of the House of Representatives from Edo State. They were supported by three other committee members from Akwa Ibom State.
Observers and delegates who monitored the primaries commended the peaceful conduct of the election, congratulating the newly elected executives and urging them to remain committed to strengthening the party’s presence in the State.
Prince Essien, who hails from Abak Local Government Area, emerged Chairman following the zoning of the position to the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
Other members of the newly elected executive include Solomon Johnny, a lawyer as Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Immaculate Uko Uffia as State Secretary, Uduakobong Ignatius Asuquo as Youth Leader, Precious Effiong as Woman Leader, and Mkponbuk Nsien as Deputy Chairman, among others.
In Delta State, the ADC at the weekend also elected a new State Executive Council (SEC), even as the leaders vowed to harmonize the previously existing divisions among members drawn from different political backgrounds
The leaders said unity was strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
George Timinimi emerged as State Chairman, while Ozegbe Emeka Lawrence was elected State Secretary after what party officials described as a keenly contested process.
Other members of the executive include JFK Urhukpe, the State Treasurer, Fred Akpewe as State Publicity Secretary, and Prince Diji as State Financial Secretary.
The emergence of the new leadership followed a consensus arrangement reached after a series of consultations and meetings among party leaders and stakeholders.
The process brought together different political tendencies, including members of the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and All Progressives Congress, who have now aligned under the ADC structure in the state.
The Congress was supervised by the Chairman of the ADC Congress Committee, Senator Clever Ikisikpo, alongside other committee members, and was attended by delegates and party faithful from the three senatorial districts of Delta State.
Observers noted that the exercise was conducted peacefully, with stakeholders commending the level of cooperation among the various blocs.
In his post-election address, Timinimi pledged to foster unity within the party and ensure inclusive leadership.
He assured members that the new executive would operate with transparency, fairness, and firmness in managing party affairs.
He also stressed the importance of collective responsibility, urging members to set aside differences and work together toward building a stronger party capable of winning future elections.
Stakeholders, including party chieftains and delegates, commended Senator Clever Ikisikpo for his role in facilitating dialogue among the various groups, noting that the consensus achieved reflected a shared commitment to the growth of the ADC in Delta.
