The Management of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) has addressed the recent hike in parking fees at its Multi-Storey Car Park (MSCP), describing the move as a desperate but necessary “operational measure” to rescue the terminal from severe congestion and security risks.

In a statement by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL) it clarified that the tariff review is not a revenue-generating scheme, but a strategic intervention to stop the facility from being used as a long-term dumping ground for vehicles.

The management revealed a trend: the car park, originally designed for short-term transit and airport business, has been increasingly treated as a general-purpose garage for the surrounding neighborhood.

According to the statement, some vehicles have been left unattended for weeks, months, and in extreme cases, years. This practice has drastically reduced available spaces for genuine travelers, creating a ripple effect of chaos:

Passengers frequently spend over 30 minutes searching for parking, leading to avoidable delays and missed departures.
The internal congestion has spilled over to the terminal frontage, choking the drop-off and pick-up zones

Management emphasised that the MSCP was never intended to function as a long-term storage facility. To combat the issue, several abandoned vehicles have already been identified and relocated to secondary secure holding areas to create breathing room for active users.

“The review is not revenue-driven restore order, reduce congestion, and maintain a safe, secure, and efficient terminal environment,” the statement read.
