The Kano State Government has issued a stern warning against fraud in its women empowerment programme, declaring that anyone who attempts to exploit beneficiaries of its N50,000 monthly support scheme will face arrest and prosecution.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf gave the warning on Saturday at the Government House in Kano while disbursing N50,000 each to 6,680 women selected across the state.
The governor said the initiative is designed to promote financial independence among women by supporting small-scale businesses, stressing that beneficiaries must receive the full amount without interference from middlemen or unauthorized individuals.
“This support is meant to help you start or grow a business and become self-reliant. Do not give any part of it to anyone. Report anyone who tries to defraud you, and we will ensure they are arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
Yusuf noted that safeguards had been put in place to ensure transparency and direct access to the funds, urging recipients to invest wisely and use the opportunity to improve their livelihoods.
The governor also explained that the current batch of beneficiaries reflects an expansion of the programme to accommodate more participants across the state’s 44 local government areas.
According to him, empowering women remains central to the administration’s economic strategy, as it has a multiplier effect on families and communities.
He further highlighted complementary social intervention programmes by the state government, including mass weddings for widows and low-income individuals, as well as youth empowerment initiatives aimed at creating sustainable sources of income.
Yusuf described the intervention as a long-term investment in human capital development, aligning it with the broader economic reform agenda of the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He urged beneficiaries to see the grant as a stepping stone toward financial stability and economic contribution to the state.
