With just two days to go, Pope Leo XIV is set to begin a four-country visit to Africa.

The 10-day Apostolic Journey, confirmed by the Vatican Press Office, will take him across Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea.

Here’s a breakdown of the countries on the official itinerary:

Algeria

Algeria will be the first stop on the Pope’s Africa tour and notably, it marks a historic visit.

The trip is expected to emphasise interfaith dialogue, especially between Christians and Muslims, in a country where Islam is the dominant religion.

Cameroon

In Cameroon, the Pope is expected to focus on peace-building efforts, particularly in regions affected by conflict.

The visit is also seen as a moment of encouragement for the Catholic community amid ongoing social and political tensions.

Angola

Angola, one of Africa’s largest Catholic populations, is another key stop.

The Pope’s visit will include major religious gatherings and is expected to spotlight both the country’s strong faith base and its socio-economic challenges.

Equatorial Guinea

The final leg of the trip will take the Pope to Equatorial Guinea.

This visit is particularly significant as papal visits to the country are rare, making it a major moment for the local Catholic community.
