The Kaduna Central Elders Forum Saturday formally endorsed the candidacy of Shehu Sani for the 2027 senatorial election, citing his track record of leadership, integrity, and grassroots connection.

Speaking at a press conference held at Hamdala Hotel, the group addressed journalists, party stakeholders, and supporters, emphasizing the need for credible and people-oriented representation in the National Assembly.

The forum said its decision followed “wide consultations, careful assessment, and deep reflection” on the needs and aspirations of the Kaduna Central Senatorial District. According to the elders, the endorsement was unanimous and based on “verifiable track record, proven integrity, capacity, and commitment to service.”

Highlighting Sani’s credentials, the group pointed to his long history of activism and advocacy, describing him as a courageous leader who has consistently spoken “truth to power” since the pro-democracy struggles of the early 1990s.

They also praised his legislative experience during his tenure in the Senate from 2015 to 2019, noting that his time in office brought significant constituency projects and elevated the profile of Kaduna Central at both regional and national levels.

“Leadership is not about promises alone—it is about performance, character, and the ability to deliver results,” the forum stated, adding that Sani’s record sets him apart from other aspirants, regardless of political affiliation.

The elders further emphasized his strong grassroots appeal, describing him as widely respected among ordinary citizens and known by the popular moniker “Jagoran Talakawa” (Leader of the Masses). They also commended his role in anti-corruption efforts, including investigations during his Senate tenure that contributed to accountability at the federal level.

The forum called on residents of Kaduna Central to unite behind Sani’s candidacy, stressing that the district, described as the “nerve centre of Northern Nigeria,” deserves bold and effective representation.

The statement also referenced ongoing governance at the state and federal levels, noting that the achievements of Uba Sani and Bola Ahmed Tinubu should be complemented by strong senatorial leadership.

“This is not just an endorsement,” the group concluded. “It is a collective decision for progress, development, and credible representation.”

The event ended with a call for unity and sustained political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
