Barely 24 hours after Bola Tinubu visited Jos to reassure residents over recent violence, another attack has occurred, raising fresh security concerns.

In the early hours of Friday, suspected terrorists attacked the Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area, killing one person. The assault reportedly originated from the Rankum (Mahanga) area and has been described by local leaders as a direct setback to ongoing peace efforts.

Rwang Tengwong, the spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), confirmed the killing in a telephone chat with BusinessDay on Friday in Jos.
He said, “Yes, after the visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Jol a community in Riyom Local Government Area was attacked this morning (Friday), and one person was killed”.

Efforts to reach Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer, for comments on the attack were unsuccessful, as calls to his numbers were not going through, leaving authorities’ direct response unavailable at the time.

The latest attack in Riyom comes amid lingering tensions from recent violence in Jos North, where coordinated assaults left more than 28  people dead, properties destroyed, and communities thrown into panic.

In response, the Federal Government, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu ramped up efforts to restore peace, including the deployment of additional security personnel and plans to install CCTV surveillance to strengthen monitoring and rapid response.

Despite the President’s assurance during his visit that such violence would not recur, the renewed attacks in Riyom highlight the fragile security situation in Plateau State and the urgent need for sustained intervention.
