Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have arrested two impostors posing as security operatives and neutralised three terrorists in coordinated operations across Jos North and Wase Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The operations followed the deployment of specialised counter-terrorism troops aimed at restoring peace in troubled communities.
In a statement signed by Polycarp Oteh, a Captain and Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, made available to Journalists on Friday in Jos, said In Jos North, troops responding to a distress call at about 11:45 p.m on Thursday in Dutse Uku, intercepted the suspects dressed in black tactical uniforms and allegedly involved in arson and orchestrating violence.
Two persons, who sustained gunshot wounds were evacuated to a medical facility and are reported to be in stable condition, while the suspects remain in custody.
“This pivotal arrest serves as a direct rebuttal to allegations suggesting military complicity in the unrest, showing that criminal elements are disguising as security personnel to perpetrate violence and discredit the Armed Forces,” the statement said.
In a separate operation in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops engaged terrorists moving on motorcycles, forcing them to flee under sustained fire, with three of the insurgents neutralized during the encounter.
“The military remains resolute in eliminating all threats to public peace and urges residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to relevant authorities,” it added.
The development comes amid recent attack and killing of 28 people including women and children and heightened violence in Jos North, which have led to loss of lives, destruction of property, and growing security concerns among residents.
In response, the government ordered the deployment of additional troops and specialized counter-terrorism units to the affected areas, reinforcing security presence and intensifying operations to restore peace and prevent further attacks.
