Saidu Alkali has resigned as minister of transportation to pursue the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State, becoming one of the first cabinet members to formally step down under President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring political appointees with electoral ambitions to resign by 31st March.

His special assistant on media and publicity, Umar Jibril, confirmed the resignation on Tuesday, saying Tinubu had accepted it and thanked Alkali for his service.

In his resignation letter, Alkali expressed appreciation to the president for the opportunity to serve and cited progress made in the transportation sector during his tenure.

Tinubu appointed Alkali to the transportation portfolio on 16th August 2023 as part of a cabinet reshuffle. Before his ministerial appointment, Alkali had represented Gombe North in the Senate across three separate terms.
