The Plateau State Police Command has intensified operations following recent killings of security personnel, recording major breakthroughs including the arrest of a suspected kidnap kingpin and several armed suspects across the state.

Ewah Bassey, the Commissioner of Police, Plateau state command  disclosed this on Saturday at the Command Headquarters in Jos, while briefing journalists on the National Police Day 2026 celebration and recent security operations aimed at curbing violent crimes, including attacks on security forces.

“Good morning members of the press, ladies and gentlemen. I have called you here today to brief you on the National Police Day Celebration 2026, as well as some of our operational breakthroughs,” Bassey said.

“The National Police Day 2026 arrives with a clear message: ‘Community Partnership: Building Trust’. Effective policing is a collective effort requiring trust, understanding, and cooperation between the police and the public they serve,” he added.

He said activities lined up for the celebration will run from March 30 to April 7, featuring sanitation exercises, medical outreach, road safety sensitisation, and support initiatives for families of deceased officers, with the grand finale scheduled for Eagle Square in Abuja.

Highlighting operational successes, the police boss said several suspects were arrested for offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearms, rape, and human trafficking, with recoveries such as AK-47 rifles, locally fabricated guns, and other dangerous exhibits.

He added that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property, urging residents to support security agencies with credible information, stressing that effective policing depends on strong community collaboration.
