Abdullahi Sule, Governor of Nasarawa State, has explained why governors in the North Central zone of the All Progressives Congress (APC) unanimously backed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 Presidential election.

Speaking on Wednesday at the APC North Central Zonal Congress held in Lafia, Sule said the decision by governors in the zone to support Tinubu was based on the impact of the administration’s economic reforms on governance at the State level.

Sule, who is also Chairman of the North Central Governors Forum, seconded the motion for Tinubu’s adoption as sole candidate, stressing that the President’s policies had improved the financial capacity of states in the region.

He noted that many State Governments were now able to execute projects and meet obligations without resorting to borrowing, describing the development as a major shift from previous challenges faced by subnational governments.

“If there is anybody that should support this motion, it should be the governors. As a result of the reforms of President Tinubu, we have been able to carry out our work — some of us — without borrowing a penny from the bank. For that reason, I second the motion for the North Central Zone to adopt President Bola Tinubu as our sole candidate,” Sule said.

The governor also expressed satisfaction with the level of unity within the APC in the North Central, noting that the party had continued to grow stronger under the current leadership.

He disclosed that the APC had increased its national spread, revealing that the party now controls 31 states across the country, a development he attributed to confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and policies.

Sule welcomed fellow governors from Benue, Kogi and Niger States, as well as representatives of other states in the zone, commending their collective commitment to the growth of the party.

He further stressed the need for sustained collaboration among party stakeholders to consolidate on the gains recorded so far and ensure victory in future elections.

The governor maintained that unity among party members remained critical, urging leaders at all levels to continue working together to strengthen the APC’s structures across the zone.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of North Central governors to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, expressing confidence that the region would deliver overwhelming votes for the President.

The APC North Central Zonal Congress, which attracted top party leaders and stakeholders, also featured the emergence of new zonal executives through a consensus process.
