The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved Sherifat Adegbenro as the acting chief executive officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

The approval, announced in a regulatory statement, is in line with governance requirements within Nigeria’s electricity sector and is aimed at ensuring leadership continuity at the distribution company pending the appointment of a substantive chief executive.

EKEDC, one of Nigeria’s 11 electricity distribution companies, provides power to customers in southern Lagos and parts of Ogun State. The company was created following the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria and privatised in 2013.

With ongoing leadership transitions within the company and broader reforms in the power sector, where regulators have been pushing for stronger corporate governance and operational efficiency among distribution companies, Adegbenro was named acting CEO.
