Olushola David Idowu, the senior Pastor of Ajayi Dahunsi Memorial Baptist Church, Lagos, has emerged as the new president-elect of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.
“The Executive Committee of the Nigerian Baptist Convention unanimously endorsed the recommendation of Rev Idowu as the new president-elect, to be ratified at the 2026 annual convention session in April in Abuja,” Rachel Lateju, chairman, presidential search committee, said in a statement.
Lateju, in a statement signed by Eben Durodola, public relation officer, Nigerian Baptist Convention, stated that the process began with mandatory fasting and prayer sessions, emphasizing their sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading in order to obtain divine guidance in all the processes involved to ensure protection against external influences and personal interests.
According to her, 147 valid nominations, comprising 21 candidates, were received, while candidates were screened with eight being shortlisted for the office. She noted that after careful selection processes, the committee prayerfully reached a unanimous decision based on the comprehensive and satisfactory performance of the president-elect.
Idowu is credited with authoring 15 books, over 35 academic publications and 26 articles published in local and international journals. “He is widely recognized as a church planter and Pastor per excellence with over 25 years pastoral experience and currently the Pastor of Ajayi Dahunsi memorial Baptist Church, Lagos.”
