Amid rising global tensions and conflicts across different regions of the world, Jibrin Barau, the Deputy President of the Senate, has urged Nigerians to deepen their sense of nationalism by rallying behind the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Barau made the appeal on Friday while speaking with journalists at the National Eid Ground in Abuja, shortly after observing the two-unit (Rakat) Eid prayers led by Professor Illiasu Usman of the National Mosque.

He emphasised that sustained public support for the federal government would accelerate Nigeria’s progress toward economic stability and national prosperity under President Tinubu’s leadership.

The lawmaker pointed to ongoing conflicts in parts of the Middle East and Europe, noting that their ripple effects are being felt globally.

According to him, these developments make it imperative for Nigerians to unite in support of their government to effectively navigate emerging challenges.

“What we need at this time is to continue supporting Mr President, all of us, and to continue praying for him so that he can succeed in his efforts to bring prosperity to our nation.

“We are facing global problems that are all over the world. We can see what is happening in the Middle East and other parts of the world.

“The world is full of challenges, and we are not an exception. So what we need at this period is to continue to support the President and pray for our nation, because we know, all of us who are working with him (Mr President) that he’s determined to bring prosperity to our nation”, he said.

Following the prayers, Barau congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast. He also prayed for unity in the country and for divine guidance for the nation’s leaders.

“At the end of the prayers, I felicitated with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, other leaders, and indeed all Ummah, on the successful completion of the Ramadan Fast.

“May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala help our country, unite our country, and help Mr. President in his efforts to reform the country for the better and to bring prosperity to our nation”, he added.

In a related remark, the Chief Imam, Professor Illiasu Usman, called on leaders at all levels of government to intensify efforts to address insecurity across the country.

He stressed that Nigeria possesses the capacity and resources required to decisively tackle threats to peace and stability, noting that meaningful development cannot thrive in an environment plagued by violence.

“Since genuine development cannot take place in any insecure or violence-riddled society, government at all levels in Nigeria should intensify their war against blood thirsty criminals in our midst, ” he said.
