…unveils national convention programme
Haruna Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), loyal to Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, said the PDP Caretaker Committee, has no plans to incorporate members of the Tanimu Turaki-led Group into the Committee.
Justice Mohammed Danjuma, of the Federal Court of Appeal, Abuja, had last week recognised the Caretaker Committee as the only body that can call meetings of the party, under the new arrangements
But the Committee foreclosed the possibility of incorporating members outside of the already recognised members, while unveiling the program for the March 29, 2026 National Convention in Abuja
The Committee however, noted that the reconciliation is ongoing adding that “it cannot in any way prevent the Caretaker Committee from carrying out the Convention.
“If you recall, we had initially informed the representative of the Turaki group who attended our last NEC meeting that whatever their written proposals may be, two things remain sacrosanct: the existence of this caretaker committee and the conduct of this National Convention.
“So irrespective of whatever reconciliation that is likely to happen, we will not incorporate any of them into the Caretaker Committee and it will not affect the conduct and processes leading to this convention”, he said.
He also disclosed that the Independent Electoral Commission INEC, had been duly notified about the PDP National Convention long ago, and in line with the notice, they had already supervised and monitored our ward, local government, and state congresses. The National Convention will not be an exception.
He also revealed that all the ward, local governments and state congresses had been concluded in line with the judgment of judgement of Justice Omotosho.
“Before we could proceed with the planned convention, we had to conclude all the congresses. That is how it has been done. We have just finished with that of Plateau yesterday, and then the Zonal congresses for the South East and North West will be on Saturday”, he said.
The party said the schedule of activities for the Convention would start from Thursday with an expectatoon to publish the names of all the Convention Committees.
“We have the National Convention Planning and Organising Committee. The committee has the following subcommittees: Venue, Security, Entertainment, Welfare, Accreditation, Media and Publicity, Protocol, Accommodation and Transport, Electoral Committee, Zoning, Screening, Medical, the National Convention Monitoring Subcommittee, which is pursuant to Article 1.3(c)(i) of the electoral guidelines, and then we have Secretariat Subcommittee.
He noted that the Convention Committee would be inaugurated on Saturday, 21st March 2026.
“It will be by 8 p.m., and the venue will also be announced tomorrow. Sunday, 22nd March 2026, the Zoning Committee will meet to zone various positions across all the geopolitical zones. This will hold on Sunday, as stated, 22nd March.
” On Monday, 23rd March, there will be an emergency NEC meeting. It shall hold by 12 noon at the FCT Minister’s Lodge, Life Camp, Abuja. Sales of forms will commence on Monday immediately after the NEC meeting, and it is expected to last till Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
“The sale of forms will close by 3 p.m. on that Wednesday. Thursday, March 26, 2026, will be the hearing of all appeals arising from the conduct of the screening and other activities. The appeals will close by 7 p.m.
“Saturday, March 28, 2026, we shall hold a pre-convention cocktail, which will be by 5 p.m. at the Minister’s Lodge, Life Camp. That one will strictly be by invitation”, he explained.
