Ikeja Electric has reaffirmed its commitment to gender inclusion and the advancement of women, hosting a hybrid event to commemorate International Women’s Day 2026 and encouraging female professionals to embrace service, mentorship and collaboration as pathways to growth.

Held in Lagos and themed “Give to Gain,” the event brought together senior executives and guest speakers who shared personal experiences and practical advice on leadership, health, financial independence and professional visibility. The gathering formed part of the company’s broader effort to promote a more inclusive workplace and strengthen opportunities for women within the organisation and beyond.

Opening the session, Folake Soetan, chief executive, urged participants to reflect on the role generosity plays in shaping careers. She challenged women to consider whether they were creating opportunities for others in the same way mentors and sponsors had once supported them.

“Legacy is not what you get; it is what you give and what continues to grow long after you have stepped back,” Soetan said, adding that the most effective leaders build influence by sharing credit, supporting colleagues and opening doors for the next generation.

Kola Adesina, board chairman, echoed the theme of collective uplift, drawing on an African proverb about the palm tree rising upward. He said women’s leadership and generosity often extend far beyond the individual, strengthening families, communities and institutions.

“When women give knowledge, societies gain enlightenment; when women give leadership, the future gains direction,” he said, noting that empowering women ultimately benefits society as a whole.

Guest speakers addressed several dimensions of personal and professional development. Morenike Molehin, chief executive of Oak and Teak Interiors, emphasised self-worth and authenticity as foundations for meaningful contribution. She encouraged women to set healthy boundaries and pursue visibility in their careers.

Jane Ezezobor, marketing communications specialist, urged participants to focus on measurable impact rather than effort alone, advising them to document achievements and communicate their value clearly within organisations.

Health and financial resilience also featured prominently. Chidi Onyedika highlighted the importance of prioritising women’s physical and mental well-being, while Odiri Oginni encouraged women to build financial independence by understanding their personal balance sheets and investing intentionally.
