Repair works along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway have commenced following public complaints about prolonged traffic congestion on the route.
The federal government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, had earlier announced a six-week partial closure of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to carry out urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and Arepo–Punch Bridge.
The rehabilitation on the outbound section commenced on Tuesday morning after it was previously suspended following the completion of the first phase, which has also triggered heavy traffic gridlock for motorists

The current phase of repairs on the Kara Bridge (Outbound Lagos) is ongoing and expected to last two weeks, starting on March 10, 2026, and ending on March 24, 2026.
Alternative routes to take during the period
In line with the partial closure of the bridge inward Opic/Mowe, motorists are advised to make use of the following alternative routes during the repair period:
Motorists from the Third Mainland Bridge are urged to connect Ketu to Mile 12 to link Ogolonto to Ikorodu Garage, and to Sabo Roundabout to connect Isagamu Road/Itokin Road, to continue their journeys.
Motorists from Lagos Island are to link Ilubinrin to connect Ijora Bridge, access Eko Bridge to Funsho Williams Avenue, and link Ikorodu Road to Ojota to Ketu, and Mile 12 to Ogolonto to Ikorodu Garage, and Sabo Roundabout to Isagamu Road / Itokin Road to link their desired destinations.
Alternatively, motorists can link Ikorodu Garage via Sabo Roundabout to Ogijo, then to Likosi, and from Shimawa to Lotto, to connect Mowe and reach their destinations.
“To ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize disruptions, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), as well as traffic management signs, will be strategically deployed within the rehabilitation corridor and along the designated alternative routes,” the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation stated.
The Lagos State Government, while urging motorists to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays, also appreciated the patience, understanding, and cooperation displayed at all rehabilitation corridors across the State.
