…Gov Lawal defers defection to next week

Mani Malam Mummuni, Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, has announced a major political shift in the State, declaring that the State Government is defecting from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All-Progressives Congress (APC).

Mummuni made the announcement on behalf of Governor Dauda Lawal, stating that the decision was taken after consultations with political stakeholders and supporters across the state.

According to the deputy governor, the move is aimed at aligning Zamfara with the ruling party at the federal level to attract greater development opportunities and strengthen governance in the Sate.

However, sources within the Government confided that the announcement had triggered intense speculation about the next steps of Governor Lawal himself. While the deputy governor spoke on behalf of the governor, sources within the State’s political circles suggest that the governor is expected to formally declare his personal defection to the APC as early as next week.

If confirmed, the move would mark a significant shift in Zamfara’s political landscape and could further reshape party alignments ahead of future electoral contests in the State.

Neither the governor nor his media aide has issued a separate statement confirming when he will personally make the declaration, but insider sources say consultations are ongoing and that a formal announcement could be imminent.

The development comes amid a wave of political realignments across several States, as politicians reposition themselves within Nigeria’s evolving party dynamics.
