The Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has called for free, fair and inclusive elections ahead of the forthcoming Area Council polls scheduled for February 21, 2026.
The elections, announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will take place across the six area councils of the FCT.
In a statement signed by Agada Jacob, its FCT Chairman, the Association urged electoral authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that the polls are conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner, free from voter intimidation, coercion or any form of disenfranchisement.

NAB stressed the need for an inclusive electoral process that guarantees accessibility for persons with disabilities, noting that eligible voters must not be denied the opportunity to participate in the democratic exercise on account of physical, sensory or other forms of disability.
“As persons with disabilities, our rights to participate fully and equally in civic processes must be protected and upheld without discrimination,” the statement said.
The Group also encouraged its members and other persons with disabilities across the FCT to turn out in large numbers on election day to exercise their civic responsibility and help shape leadership at the grassroots level.
Beyond INEC, the Association appealed to political parties, security agencies and community leaders to uphold democratic principles and ensure safety at polling units throughout the election period.
