The British American Tobacco of Nigeria Foundation (BATN) has been recognised at the NSITF–NECA Safe Workplace Intervention Project (SWIP) Awards ceremony and interactive forum on the Employees’ Compensation Act in acknowledgement of the company’s strong commitment to occupational safety, employee welfare, and regulatory compliance.
The recognition was formally conveyed through a joint communication issued by the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
As part of the award, BATN received a comprehensive range of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) equipment intended to further strengthen safety standards across its operations in Ibadan recently.
The items presented include personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, protective helmets, long-sleeve coveralls, gloves, safety spectacles, earplugs, and earmuffs.
Speaking on the recognition, Hasnain Ishtiaq, operations director at BATN, noted that the organisation pays attention to safety.
“This recognition from NSITF and NECA affirms the deliberate steps we have taken to prioritise the well-being of our people and to maintain a workplace where safety standards are continuously strengthened and never compromised,” he said in a statement.
The NSITF–NECA Safe Workplace Intervention Project is designed to encourage Nigerian employers to strengthen their OSH infrastructure and deepen awareness of statutory obligations under the Employees’ Compensation Act, thereby improving workplace safety culture across industries.
BATN’s recognition reflects its sustained investment in creating a safe, compliant, and employee-centred work environment, aligned with national regulatory requirements and global best practices in occupational safety and health.
