The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported that electricity distribution companies (DisCos) generated a total revenue of N564.71 billion in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025.
According to its latest quarterly report, this marks a 2 percent rise compared to the N553.63 billion collected in the first quarter (Q1) of the year.
NERC stated that the DisCos generated this revenue from a total billing of N742.34 billion, which is slightly lower than the N744.26 billion billed in the first quarter (Q1), representing a 0.26 percent decline.
The regulator noted that the Q2 revenue translates to a collection efficiency of 76.07 percent, up from 74.39 percent recorded in Q1, indicating a 1.68 percentage point improvement across the sector.
Among the DisCos, Eko DisCo achieved the highest collection efficiency at 87.80 percent, while Jos DisCo had the lowest at 43.82 percent.
“This means that at an aggregate level, DisCos recorded a 1.68pp increase in collection efficiency between 2025/Q1 and 2025/Q2,” the report reads.
NERC added that more than half of the DisCos, including Port Harcourt (+9.79pp), Benin (+5.04pp), Ikeja (+4.89pp), Ibadan (+4.20pp), Eko (+3.01pp) and Yola (+0.88pp), improved their collection efficiency between Q1 and Q2 2025.
However, the commission noted that five DisCos recorded declines, with Abuja (-3.93pp) and Jos (-3.37pp) experiencing the most significant drops in efficiency over the period.
