The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says over 4.4 million Nigerians have pre-registered online within four weeks of the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise.

A statement by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, indicated that as of September 14, 2025, a total of 4,445,505 people had pre-registered since the exercise commenced on August 18.

Of the figure, 2,141,294 (48.17%) are male, while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. Young people between 18 and 34 years old accounted for the majority with 2,924,643 (65.79%), while 1,112,344 (25.02%) were students.

On completed registrations, INEC revealed that as of September 12, the combined figure for both online pre-registration and in-person registration stood at 509,929, with females (280,171 or 54.94%) outnumbering males (229,758 or 45.06%). Similarly, youths between 18 and 34 years made up 74.15% (378,132), while 38.54% (196,529) were students.

The Commission also announced that online pre-registration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ended on Monday, September 15, 2025, while physical registration would continue at designated centres for two weeks before being devolved to all 62 wards in the FCT between September 29 and October 8, 2025.

INEC said detailed breakdowns of registrations by the States, gender, age, occupation, and disability have been uploaded on its official platforms.
