A fresh political realignment is taking shape in Ebonyi State as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday emerged as the rallying point of an opposition coalition determined to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

At an inaugural meeting of coalition leaders held in Abakaliki, politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), APGA and some disenchanted APC members declared allegiance to ADC, describing it as the only credible platform to “rescue Nigerians from hardship.”

ADC State Chairman, Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, said the ruling party had failed the people and that the opposition was united to offer an alternative.

“Our people are suffering, our future is under siege, but together we will take back Ebonyi and Nigeria. APC has had its chance and failed. ADC is the platform of liberation,” she declared.

She urged politicians across party lines to collapse their structures into ADC, stressing that the party stands for inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability.

Former PDP senatorial candidate, Barr. Silas Onu criticised the APC logo as “the weapon of witches,” alleging that the ruling party had reduced Nigerians to survival through “burial levies and WhatsApp contributions.”

Also speaking, Labour Party’s 2023 senatorial hopeful, Chief Linus Okorie, described the adoption of ADC as a “masterstroke,” saying the coalition was not just about opposition but about reclaiming the state.

ADC National Vice Chairman (South-East), Fred Onwe, boasted that the party’s grassroots reach would make it unstoppable in 2027.

Other political figures at the meeting included former minister, Engr. Fidelis Nwankwo and Dr. Sunday Opoke, who both predicted that APC’s hold on the state was collapsing.

Leaders of the coalition described the meeting as introductory but announced plans for a grand unveiling rally, promising it would “shake the political ground” in Ebonyi.
