In sporting history, Nigeria has delivered unforgettable comebacks that have united its people.
In 1989, during the Under-20 Men’s FIFA World Cup quarter-finals in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria faced the now-defunct Soviet Union. Trailing 4-0 in the second half, the Nigerian team staged an extraordinary rally, equalised, forced extra time, and eventually triumphed in a penalty shootout — a match forever remembered as the “Miracle of Dammam.”
Again, at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, Nigeria’s football team faced mighty Brazil in the semi-finals.
